How to Design a Teardrop Flag or Feather Flag in Canva
Designing your own teardrop flag or feather flag in Canva is easy when you start with the correct template.
This tutorial will show you how to choose a flag template, add your logo, adjust the artwork, change colours and share the finished Canva design with us for printing.
You can use Canva in your web browser, and no professional graphic design software is required.
If you are ordering custom flags from Flagseller NZ, following the steps below will help us prepare your artwork for printing more quickly.
Note: If Canva blocks your download because your design contains Canva Pro elements, simply share the Canva design with us. We can download and prepare the artwork for you.
Step 1: Choose the Correct Flag Canva Template
The first step is to choose the correct template for the flag shape and size you are ordering.
For teardrop flags, visit our teardrop flag kitsets page and find the section called Design Services and Teardrop Flag Templates for DIY.
You can also view the available teardrop flag templates there.
If you are designing a small teardrop flag, you can go directly to our Canva template:
Open the Small Teardrop Flag Canva Template
After opening the template, click Use template for new design. Canva will create your own editable copy.
Step 2: Upload Your Logo or Artwork
Once the flag template is open in Canva, add your logo or artwork.
- Click Uploads in the menu on the left.
- Upload your logo, photo or other artwork.
- Click the uploaded file to place it onto the flag template.
For the best printing quality, use a vector logo if you have one. Vector artwork stays sharp when enlarged.
PNG and JPG logos can also be used, provided the original file is large enough and good quality.
If your logo is in PDF format, upload the PDF into Canva and copy the required artwork onto your flag design.
Step 3: Resize and Position Your Logo
Click your logo or artwork to select it.
You can then:
- Drag the corners to make it larger or smaller.
- Drag the artwork to move it around the flag.
- Use the rotation control underneath the object to rotate it.
Because a teardrop flag has a curved and angled shape, you may need to rotate your logo or wording slightly to make the best use of the available print area.
For example, the small teardrop flag has an approximately 62-degree sloping side, so some designs look better when the logo or text follows the angle of the flag.
Step 4: Arrange Multiple Design Elements
If your flag contains a logo, text and other graphics, Canva's Group and Ungroup tools can make the design easier to manage.
To select several items at the same time, hold the Shift key and click each element.
You can then move, resize or rotate those elements together.
Step 5: Change the Background and Brand Colours
Use Canva's colour controls in the top toolbar to adjust your background, text, logo and other design elements.
For a good teardrop flag or feather flag design, we recommend:
- Using strong contrast between the background and the logo.
- Making the main logo or message large.
- Avoiding too much small text.
- Keeping important information away from the very edges of the template.
- Using consistent brand colours where possible.
Remember that most promotional flags are viewed from several metres away, so simple and bold designs usually work better than complicated layouts.
Step 6: Check Your Flag Design Before Sending It
Before sharing your artwork with us, do a quick final check:
- Is the correct flag template being used?
- Is your logo large enough to be easily seen?
- Is the text large enough to read from a distance?
- Are the colours correct?
- Are important logos and wording kept inside the flag shape?
- Have you removed any unused objects or temporary notes?
You do not need to remove the template guides unless instructed. Our artwork team can make final production adjustments if required.
Step 7: Share Your Canva Flag Design With Us
The easiest way to send us your Canva artwork is to share the design directly.
- Click Share in the top-right corner of Canva.
- Enter our email address: flagseller.co.nz@gmail.com.
- Set the permission to Edit.
- Add any special artwork or printing instructions if required.
We will make a copy of your Canva design before preparing the print artwork, so your original Canva file will not be changed.

Teardrop Flag or Feather Flag: Which Template Should I Use?
Choose the template that matches the flag you are ordering.
A teardrop flag has a curved shape with no loose flying end. A feather flag has a taller shape with more usable design space, which can be useful when you need to include more wording or larger graphics.
If you are unsure which style is better for your design, compare our teardrop flag kitsets and feather flag kitsets before starting your Canva artwork.
