How to Assemble a Teardrop Flag | 1-Minute Setup Guide

A teardrop flag is quick to set up, but fitting the flag correctly is important because the flexible upper part of the pole forms the curved teardrop shape as the sleeve is installed. Follow the steps below to assemble the pole, guide the flag into position, tension it correctly and fit it to a suitable base.

Before You Start: Check Your Teardrop Flag Parts

A complete setup normally includes the printed flag, fibreglass pole set and a base suited to where the flag will be used. If you are replacing individual components, you can order replacement teardrop flag poles, a custom printed teardrop flag only, or compare our seven flag base options.

Step 1: Join the Fibreglass Teardrop Flag Pole

Connect the pole sections from the bottom upwards and push every joint fully together. Small and large teardrop flag poles use different numbers and lengths of sections, so lay the complete set out first and make sure no section has been missed.

Do not start fitting the flag until the pole joints are fully seated. A partly connected joint can separate when the pole begins to bend into the teardrop shape.

Step 2: Guide the Flag Sleeve Over the Pole

Start at the open end of the sleeve and carefully feed the assembled pole through it. As the pole moves further into the sleeve, guide the fabric around the flexible upper section rather than forcing it. The pole will progressively follow the curved outline of the teardrop flag.

Continue until the pole tip reaches the very end of the sleeve. The tip should remain inside the reinforced end section so the load is supported by the reinforced area rather than the printed fabric alone.

Step 3: Tension the Flag to Form the Teardrop Shape

Once the pole tip is fully in position, pull the bottom of the flag down gently. Hook the tension cord onto the clip near the lower part of the pole and tighten it until the outer edge of the flag forms a clean teardrop shape.

The flag should be firm and smooth, but there is no need to over-tighten the cord. Excessive tension does not improve the display and puts unnecessary load on the sleeve and stitching.

Step 4: Fit a Base for the Surface

The right base depends mainly on where the teardrop flag will stand:

For lawns, soil and other soft ground, a Ground Spike is usually the simplest option.
For concrete, paving and indoor floors, consider a Cross Base + Water Bag, Water Tank Base or 10 kg Steel Plate Base.

Lower the pole onto the rotating spindle of the base. The teardrop flag should be able to turn with changes in wind direction, so do not secure the pole in a way that stops normal rotation.

Step 5: Do a Final Setup Check

Before leaving the flag in position, check that:

all pole sections are pushed fully together;
the pole tip is at the reinforced end of the sleeve;
the bottom tension cord is secure without being excessively tight;
the selected base is stable on the surface; and
the pole can rotate freely on the base.

How to Pack Down and Store a Teardrop Flag

Release the bottom tension cord before removing the flag from the pole. Slide the sleeve off gradually, especially around the curved upper part, then separate the fibreglass pole sections. If the flag is wet, allow it to dry before long-term storage.
