Footpath Signs with ACM Panel
Our custom footpath signs are a practical, high-visibility outdoor signage option for shops, cafes, real estate, schools, events and service businesses across New Zealand. Each complete sign combines a heavy-duty fillable water base with a rigid 800 × 600mm ACM sign panel, custom printed on both sides. Also known as a pavement sign, sidewalk sign or water-base footpath sign, it is easy to position near entrances, footpaths and roadside-facing business areas.
The complete set is designed to provide a professional outdoor display without the cost of a larger permanent sign. The ACM panel is rigid, durable and laser-cut for smooth edges, while the plastic base can be filled with water or sand for extra stability. If you already own the base, choose the Replacement Panels Only option; if you only need the hardware, choose Base Only.
Normal turnaround is around 3–4 working days after payment and print-ready artwork are confirmed. Shipping is available nationwide across New Zealand.

3. Why Choose an ACM Panel for a Footpath Sign?
ACM, or aluminium composite material, is a rigid sign panel made with aluminium faces around a lightweight core. For a footpath sign, it provides a flatter, more professional display than lightweight temporary sheet materials and is well suited to repeated commercial use.
- Rigid and tidy: the panel stays flat and presents branding cleanly.
- Outdoor suitable: ACM is widely used for shop signs, building signs and other exterior signage.
- Smooth finish: the laser-cut edges create a cleaner finished panel.
- Replaceable: keep the water base and replace only the printed ACM panel when your promotion changes.
If you need fixed or wall-mounted signage instead of a portable base, compare our custom printed ACM shop signs.
4. Water-Filled Base for Outdoor Footpath Signs
The fillable base is one of the main advantages of this style of pavement sign. It is light enough to move when empty, then becomes substantially heavier once filled at the display location.
- Approximately 2.5kg when empty for easier transport and storage.
- Approximately 14kg when filled with water.
- Fill with sand when you prefer additional weight and do not need to empty the base frequently.
- Best used on a reasonably flat surface where the sign will not obstruct pedestrians or traffic.
Like all portable outdoor signs, it is not storm-proof. Move the sign indoors during severe wind or unsafe weather rather than relying on the filled base alone.
5. Footpath Sign Artwork, PDF and Canva Templates
Use the correct 800 × 600mm template so important text, logos and contact details stay safely inside the finished panel area.
- Download the footpath sign PDF template.
- Use our Canva template to design your footpath sign.
- Keep important information inside the safe lines shown on the template.
- Vector PDF artwork is preferred. High-resolution raster artwork can also be used when supplied at sufficient quality.
- Because the sign is printed on both sides, you may supply the same design twice or different artwork for each face.
Simple Footpath Sign Design Tips
- Use a large headline that can be read quickly by passing pedestrians or drivers.
- Keep the message short: business name, offer, direction or key service normally works better than a paragraph of information.
- Use strong colour contrast between the background and important wording.
- Keep phone numbers, arrows and calls to action large enough to read from several metres away.
6. Where Footpath Signs Work Best
- Retail shops: promote sales, opening hours, new products and entrances.
- Cafes and restaurants: advertise menus, specials, coffee, takeaway offers and directional information.
- Real estate: guide visitors to open homes, show homes, developments and property offices.
- Schools and childcare: display enrolment messages, events, pick-up directions and notices.
- Trade and service businesses: make businesses located back from the road easier to find.
- Events and promotions: provide portable branding, directions, registrations and sponsor messages.
7. Footpath Sign vs A-Frame Sandwich Board
Both products are portable signs, but they suit different setups. This footpath sign uses a fillable plastic base with one vertical ACM panel. A traditional A-frame or sandwich board uses a folding frame with a panel on each side.
| Sign Type | Best For | Main Difference |
|---|---|---|
| Water-Base Footpath Sign | Regular outdoor display where a weighted base and compact footprint are useful. | One 800 × 600mm double-sided ACM panel in a fillable plastic base. |
| A-Frame Sandwich Board Sign | Businesses wanting a traditional folding pavement sign with two separate sign faces. | Folding frame with two removable printed boards. |
8. Related Outdoor Sign Options
- A-frame sandwich board signs: folding pavement signs with printed ACM panels.
- Custom ACM signs: rigid printed panels for shopfronts, walls, sites and fixed signage.
- Custom corflute signs: lighter and lower-cost temporary signage for promotions, property and events.
- Corflute sign holders: compact portable holders for real estate and temporary signage.

What size is the footpath sign panel?

How heavy is the water base?
The base is approximately 2.5kg empty and around 14kg when filled with water.
Can I fill the footpath sign base with sand?
Yes. Water is convenient when you need to empty and move the sign regularly. Sand can be used when you prefer more weight and do not need to empty the base frequently.
Is this footpath sign suitable outdoors?
Yes. The ACM panel, outdoor printing and fillable base are designed for regular outdoor business signage. However, like any portable pavement sign, it should be moved indoors during severe wind or unsafe weather.
How long does a custom footpath sign take?

Flag and Banner Maintenance
While our high precision sewing and heavy-duty European ink is at the best of the best in the market, the inevitable wear of time will fade your flags and banners. Here are some quick tips to keep your flags or banners in a longer lifetime:
1. Keep out of direct sunlight when not needed - our UV-resistant European ink still fare better without UV rays
2. Ensure there are NO nearby rough walls, poles or plants that will damage the fabric - constant friction may cause irregular tear, as the number one reason for failure.
3. Make sure the flag or banner is setup correctly - push flag to the end of pole tip and tie the cord stopper accordingly
4. Keep your poles for your teardrop or feather banners away from surrounding objects - avoid pole damage caused by collision with other strong obstacles due to wind
5. Not for very windy days - it's a good idea to take down your large banners if wind speeds exceed 55km/h, your small banners if wind speeds exceed 65km/h
6. Wash only when necessary - when washing do not use detergent, rinse in water only, no washing machine.
