Custom flagpole flags are made for traditional outdoor flag poles and are most commonly ordered as company or corporate flags. Also searched as flag pole flags, flagpole flags, custom pole flags and custom flags, they are also suitable for birthdays, parties, festivals, weddings, clubs and sports supporters.

Choose 110gsm polyknit, heavy-duty 250gsm polyknit or true double-sided 150gsm satin. Finish with sister clips or eyelets. The most popular standard size is 1800 × 900mm; pricing is based on area with a 1m² minimum. The largest custom flag we have produced so far was 6000 × 3000mm in 250gsm polyknit.

Custom Flagpole Flags NZ: Price, Quality and Turnaround

Standard 1800 × 900mm flag: 1.62m², so select the Up to 1.7m² option. With sister clips, current prices are $65 + GST in 110gsm polyknit, $97 + GST in 250gsm polyknit or $129 + GST in true double-sided satin.

Normal production: around 5 working days after payment and print-ready artwork are confirmed.
Urgent production: around 2 working days. The urgent fee is $25 + GST per m²; for urgent calculations, the finished area is rounded up to the next whole square metre. View urgent flag printing.

Fly-end reinforcement: the lower flying corner is strengthened with triangular diagonal sewing because this is where rectangular flags most commonly begin to fray.

1. Custom Flagpole Flag Fabric Options

Fabric
Key Difference
110gsm Polyknit
  • Most popular and economical option; light enough to fly well in normal conditions.
  • Printed on one side; colour shows through to the reverse.
  • Reverse side is mirrored and slightly lighter.
250gsm Heavy-Duty Polyknit
  • Much thicker and heavier than standard polyknit; suitable for heavy-duty and very large flags.
  • Printed from both sides because the fabric is too thick for good ink show-through.
  • Reverse side is still a mirrored version of the front, not true double-sided.
150gsm True Double-Sided Satin
  • Deluxe satin with blockout backing; the design reads correctly from both sides.
  • More premium appearance, but considerably heavier than 110gsm polyknit.
  • May not fly well in light wind, especially when wet after rain.

2. Flagpole Flag Sizes and Area Pricing

Price & standard size
  • Minimum charge is 1.0m².
  • Our most popular size is 1800 × 900mm = 1.62m², so select Up to 1.7m².
How to calculate
  • Width in metres × height in metres = area in m².
  • Select the price bracket that covers your finished area.
Very large flags
  • Contact us if your required size is outside the online selector.
  • Our largest completed flag so far was 6000 × 3000mm in 250gsm polyknit.

The 1800 × 900mm proportion is also widely used for national flags. For ready-made options, see our premium New Zealand flag, New Zealand flags and buntings, or country flags and buntings.

3. Sister Clips or Eyelets

Sister Clips
  • Recommended for most traditional flagpoles; strong connection to the flagpole rope or halyard.
  • Widely used on outdoor flagpoles, boats and ships, and normally used as a pair.
  • Buy a pair of sister clips for your existing flagpole rope if required.
Eyelets
  • Available when your existing mounting setup specifically requires eyelets.
  • For a normal flagpole rope, sister clips are generally the stronger and more versatile option.

4. Reinforced Fly End and Expected Flag Life

Rectangular flagpole flags normally begin to wear at the bottom corner of the flying end. We strengthen this point with extra sewing in a triangular diagonal pattern to reduce premature fraying.

Around 6–12 months can be used as a general outdoor-life guide, but actual life varies with wind, UV, rain, flag size and hours of use. Take large or heavily loaded flags down during storms and severe weather.

8. Custom Flagpole Flags: Frequently Asked Questions

What is the most popular flagpole flag size?

1800 × 900mm. Its area is 1.62m², so select the Up to 1.7m² price bracket.

How is a custom flag price calculated?

Multiply width in metres by height in metres, then select the matching area bracket. The minimum charge is 1m².

How is the urgent fee calculated?

Urgent production is around 2 working days and costs $25 + GST per m². For the urgent fee, the finished flag area is rounded up to the next whole square metre. For example, an 1800 × 900mm flag is 1.62m², so the urgent fee is based on 2m²: $50 + GST.

Which fabric is the most popular?

110gsm polyknit. It is the lightest and most economical option, with the design showing through to a mirrored reverse.

Is 250gsm polyknit a true double-sided flag?

No. It is printed from both sides because the fabric is too thick for good show-through, but the reverse is still printed as a mirrored version of the front.

Which flag reads correctly from both sides?

The 150gsm premium satin option uses blockout backing so the design reads correctly from both directions.

Why can a double-sided satin flag struggle in rain?

It is already heavier than a standard flag and becomes heavier again when wet, so it may hang rather than fly properly until it dries.

Are sister clips better than eyelets?

For most traditional flagpoles, yes. Sister clips give a strong halyard connection and are widely used on outdoor flagpoles, boats and ships. Eyelets remain available for specific mounting requirements.

Why do flagpole flags fray at the flying end?

The free edge receives repeated wind loading. Wear commonly starts at the lower fly corner, which is why we reinforce this point with triangular diagonal sewing.

How large can you make a custom flag?

We can make flags substantially larger than 1800 × 900mm. The largest we have produced so far was 6000 × 3000mm in 250gsm heavy-duty polyknit.

Can you make company, birthday, party or supporter flags?

Yes. Company and corporate flags are the most common orders, but the same product can be printed for birthdays, parties, weddings, festivals, clubs and sports supporters.

Do you have ready-made New Zealand and country flags?

Flag and Banner Maintenance

While our high precision sewing and heavy-duty European ink is at the best of the best in the market, the inevitable wear of time will fade your flags and banners. Here are some quick tips to keep your flags or banners in a longer lifetime:

1. Keep out of direct sunlight when not needed - our UV-resistant European ink still fare better without UV rays

2. Ensure there are NO nearby rough walls, poles or plants that will damage the fabric - constant friction may cause irregular tear, as the number one reason for failure.

3. Make sure the flag or banner is setup correctly - push flag to the end of pole tip and tie the cord stopper accordingly

4. Keep your poles for your teardrop or feather banners away from surrounding objects - avoid pole damage caused by collision with other strong obstacles due to wind

5. Not for very windy days - it's a good idea to take down your large banners if wind speeds exceed 55km/h, your small banners if wind speeds exceed 65km/h

6. Wash only when necessary - when washing do not use detergent, rinse in water only, no washing machine.
