Custom Fabric Banner NZ – 110gsm Polyknit Outdoor Banner

Our 110gsm polyknit custom fabric banner is the lowest-cost fabric banner option in the FlagSeller range. It is a lightweight, flexible printed banner made from the same type of polyester polyknit used for our single-sided teardrop and feather flags. It is a practical choice when you want an economical custom fabric banner in NZ for events, fences, schools, sports grounds, promotions and general outdoor advertising.

The banner is printed on one side. The ink penetrates through the lightweight fabric, so the reverse shows approximately up to 80% of the colour, but the artwork reads in mirror image from the back. Because the fabric is relatively thin, it can also look slightly transparent in strong sunlight. This is normal for 110gsm polyknit and is the main trade-off for its lower price and light weight.

Despite being lightweight, 110gsm polyknit is designed for outdoor flag and banner use. With reinforced edges and regular eyelets, it provides a durable and easy-to-handle option for temporary and promotional outdoor displays.

1. Why Choose a 110gsm Polyknit Fabric Banner?

Feature
What It Means
Lowest-cost fabric banner
  • Our most economical custom printed fabric banner material.
  • Good where price is more important than blockout or a heavy premium feel.
  • Useful for larger temporary banners where keeping the total cost down matters.
Lightweight 110gsm polyknit
  • Easy to fold, transport, store and install.
  • The same general fabric type used for our standard single-sided advertising flags.
  • Less weight is placed on fences, railings and temporary fixing points than with heavier banner materials.
Outdoor promotional use
  • Suitable for normal temporary outdoor advertising and event use.
  • Flexible fabric moves more naturally than rigid signage.
  • Reinforced edge bands and eyelets help distribute fixing tension.

2. Single-Sided Printing, Show-Through and Sunlight Transparency

This product is intentionally designed as a single-sided fabric banner to keep the price as low as possible.

Front / printed side

Your artwork reads correctly and is printed in full colour directly onto the 110gsm polyknit fabric.

Reverse side

The colour shows through the fabric at up to approximately 80%, but wording and logos appear mirrored from the reverse because there is only one printed layer.

Strong sunlight / backlighting

Because 110gsm polyknit is thin and lightweight, some sunlight can pass through it. The banner may therefore look slightly transparent when the sun or another strong light source is directly behind it.

If you need a more opaque, substantial banner with better blockout, compare our 150gsm silver-backed premium fabric banner. If you simply want a thicker, heavier outdoor fabric, compare our 250gsm heavy-duty polyknit fabric banner.

3. Custom Fabric Banner Sizes and Square-Metre Pricing

Pricing is based on the total printed area. Calculate your banner area as:

Width × Height = total square metres

For example, a 2.0m × 1.0m banner is 2.0m², so select the up to 2.0m² option. The live selector includes area brackets from 1.0m² through to 15.0m².

Important size limit: this product is intended for banners with a maximum one-piece height of 1.5m. There is no equivalent restriction on the banner length. If the required height is more than 1.5m and you do not want the banner manufactured from joined sections, order through our Extra Large Fabric Banners page.

Example 110gsm custom fabric banner prices, ex GST
Area Option Current Price
Up to 1.0m² $63
Up to 1.5m² $80
Up to 2.0m² $94
Up to 3.0m² $119
Up to 5.0m² $167
Up to 10.0m² $274
Up to 15.0m² $382

Larger quantities may qualify for volume pricing. Contact us if you require multiple custom banners with the same or different artwork.

4. Standard Fabric Banner Finishing – Reinforced Edges and Eyelets

The standard finishing on this product is designed for simple tying or fixing to fences, rails, walls and event structures.

  • Eyelets approximately every 500mm around the perimeter.
  • Strong reinforcing bands around the edges to support the eyelets and spread fixing tension.
  • Other finishing methods may be available for special installations; contact us before ordering if you need a different setup.

When installing the banner, distribute the fixing tension across multiple eyelets rather than pulling hard from only a few points. Keep the fabric clear of sharp edges and rough surfaces that can rub or cut it in wind.

5. Where to Use a Lightweight Outdoor Fabric Banner

  • Schools and sports clubs: sports days, sponsorship banners, team events and temporary fence branding.
  • Community events: festivals, fundraisers, registrations and event signage.
  • Businesses: promotions, openings, temporary outdoor advertising and building or railing displays.
  • Markets and exhibitions: lightweight banners that are easy to transport and pack away.
  • Indoor displays: useful where a soft, non-PVC fabric appearance is preferred and strong blockout is not required.

For very exposed or consistently windy fence locations, a solid lightweight fabric banner may not be the best choice because it still catches wind. Consider our fabric mesh banners for windy areas instead.

6. Custom Fabric Banner Artwork Requirements

Simple, bold artwork normally gives the best result on an outdoor banner, especially when it will be viewed from a distance.

  • Vector PDF, AI, EPS or SVG artwork is preferred for logos and text.
  • High-resolution bitmap images can be used where resolution is sufficient for the final banner size.
  • Bitmap images should normally be at least 100dpi at final size.
  • Use CMYK artwork where practical.
  • Convert important fonts to outlines or curves.
  • Keep important text and logos away from the outer finishing/eyelet area.
  • For close brand-colour matching, provide the required Pantone Solid Coated reference where available.

If you need help preparing the layout, add our professional banner design and layout service.

7. Which Fabric Banner Material Should I Choose?

Banner Material
Best For
110gsm Standard Polyknit – this product
  • Lowest-cost fabric banner option.
  • Single-sided print with colour showing through to the reverse.
  • Lightweight and easy to transport.
  • Slight transparency can be visible in strong backlighting.
  • Heavier and more substantial outdoor fabric.
  • Better when you want a thicker banner rather than the lightest/cheapest option.
  • More opaque premium banner option.
  • Useful when reducing show-through and improving presentation matters more than lowest price.
  • Designed for fences and more exposed windy areas.
  • Open mesh structure allows more air to pass through.

8. Outdoor Care and Banner Lifespan

A lightweight polyknit banner can be durable for outdoor promotional use, but its lifespan depends heavily on installation, UV exposure, wind and whether it rubs against surrounding objects.

  • Use multiple fixing points so load is distributed around the banner.
  • Do not allow the banner to flap continuously against fences, walls, poles, branches or sharp edges.
  • Remove the banner during severe weather or unusually strong wind.
  • Allow wet fabric to dry before long-term storage.
  • Keep the banner clean and dry when packed away.
  • Long-term direct sunlight will gradually fade printed colour, as with other outdoor fabric graphics.

9. 110gsm Custom Fabric Banner FAQ

Why is the 110gsm polyknit banner the cheapest fabric banner option?

It uses one lightweight 110gsm fabric layer with single-sided printing. There is no second printed layer or blockout layer, so material and production costs are lower than heavier or double-layer premium banner options.

Can the banner be seen from both sides?

Yes, the print shows through to the reverse at up to approximately 80% colour. However, the reverse is mirrored because the artwork is printed correctly on only one side.

Is the 110gsm fabric transparent?

It is not a clear fabric, but it is lightweight and allows some light through. In normal front lighting it displays strongly, while in direct backlighting or strong sunlight it can look slightly transparent.

Is a lightweight 110gsm fabric banner durable enough for outdoor use?

Yes, it is the same general type of outdoor polyknit used for standard advertising flags and is suitable for normal temporary outdoor use. Correct installation, distributed fixing tension and keeping the fabric away from abrasive objects are important for durability.

What is the maximum banner height on this product?

The maximum one-piece height on this product is 1.5m. There is no equivalent restriction on length. For a taller one-piece banner, use our Extra Large Fabric Banners product.

How do I calculate which square-metre option to order?

Multiply the finished width by the finished height in metres. For example, 2.0m × 1.0m = 2.0m², so choose the up to 2.0m² option.

How are the standard banners finished?

The standard finishing uses strong reinforcing bands around the perimeter with an eyelet approximately every 500mm. Other finishing methods may be possible for special installations.

Is this banner suitable for a very windy fence location?

For a consistently exposed or windy fence, we generally recommend a fabric mesh banner because its open structure allows more air to pass through and reduces wind load.

What should I choose if I do not want the background to show through?

Choose a more opaque material such as our 150gsm silver-backed premium fabric banner. It is a better choice when blockout and a more substantial presentation are more important than minimum cost.

Can you print photos and detailed artwork on 110gsm polyknit?

Yes. Full-colour artwork, logos, gradients and photographs can be printed. Remember that the lightweight fabric and show-through characteristic mean this product is aimed more at economical promotional display than premium blockout presentation.

Do you offer quantity discounts for custom fabric banners?

Yes. Contact us for larger quantities so we can check the best available volume price for your banner sizes and artwork requirements.

Flag and Banner Maintenance

While our high precision sewing and heavy-duty European ink is at the best of the best in the market, the inevitable wear of time will fade your flags and banners. Here are some quick tips to keep your flags or banners in a longer lifetime:

1. Keep out of direct sunlight when not needed - our UV-resistant European ink still fare better without UV rays

2. Ensure there are NO nearby rough walls, poles or plants that will damage the fabric - constant friction may cause irregular tear, as the number one reason for failure.

3. Make sure the flag or banner is setup correctly - push flag to the end of pole tip and tie the cord stopper accordingly

4. Keep your poles for your teardrop or feather banners away from surrounding objects - avoid pole damage caused by collision with other strong obstacles due to wind

5. Not for very windy days - it's a good idea to take down your large banners if wind speeds exceed 55km/h, your small banners if wind speeds exceed 65km/h

6. Wash only when necessary - when washing do not use detergent, rinse in water only, no washing machine.
